Modeling Clay sculpture?
Right now im working with Van Aken Plastalina Clay and i find its a bit too hard.If i nuke it in the microwave ill it soften it a bit?
This type of modeling clay doesn’t harden when heated or exposed to air so im not worried about that
The best way to soften oil based clay is to use a lamp and build a tin foil wall around it. It sounds crude, but everyone I know who works with it uses this method. Some have even gone so far as to build a box lined with tin foil and use one of those utility lights in to top. You should also cut the block down into smaller chunks using a wire cutter or clay knife.
Your only other option is to buy a softer clay. The Van Aken clay comes in various densities. Very Hard, Hard, Medium, and Soft. I usually choose the medium density (the puke green color)
