The balsa wood suitable for carving and sculpture?
I am totally new to woodcarving and sculpture. He bought a block balsa wood. My rough model is so ugly. I can see all the holes in balsa wood. The tiny holes that nutrients from the water and are filtered by the roots. What about lime?
You have answered your question on the raft. Is the porosity also tend to pieces under stress, so delicate sculpture is clear. Remember, the darker the wood denser. The denser the wood, the harder and stronger it is. Go to shop carpentry and choose a handful of small pieces to practice. The store may allow some have rebuilt a piece for free, or a few final pieces are very cheap. I find that not only feels good to cut, but it seems to look good. Note the differences in the surface of the cut will be with the grain and those against. These differences should help determine how to approach the actual orientation of its design in the block of wood.
