Can I carve into a bonsai tree’s trunk without killing it?

I want to give my girlfriend a bonsai tree with our initials carved/lightly burned into the trunk. I was thinking of using a razor and a small wood burning tool. I am hoping it will scar over and look somewhat like initials carved in a real tree; Anyone know if it is possible to do this without killing the tree?

If you plan on leaving your bonsai inside, it will be dead in 6 weeks.

Ask the seller what you are getting and how to take care if it. If they are vague, go elsewhere.
