need help buying wood carving tools, prices vary from $10 to $150, what’s a reasonable price?
New to wood carving, really enjoying it. Want to buy my own tools, want quality, something that’s going to last, and not break. What’s a good brand, and a reasonable price.
You pay for quality.
You pay more money for good quality, but you get better results and fewer injuries.
You pay less for poor quality but the results are not as good, and the probability of injury increases.
These rules only work for reputable companies – with a long history of service.
I would recommend Lee Valley tools – google Lee Valley and you will get their website. They are a Canadian company with a good reputation among craftsman woodworkers – they do mail order.
The most important thing about hand tools – is safety. Keep the blade away from you and push as much as you can. I would also recommend having butterfly bandages handy at all times to close wounds if necessary.
