Why It’s Fun in Breckenridge
ou will always find a good reason why a trip to Breckenridge is worth your while. The lovely view of the Ten Mile Range will definite capture your attention whether you’re gazing at it for the first time or numerous times already. While the recreational activities are also a draw, Breckenridge seems to put on a new face every time the town comes together in celebration. In Breckenridge, there always seems something to celebrate and if you’re planning a vacation to Colorado’s 149-year-old Victorian paradise, several memorable events will make your stay even more meaningful.
- Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships
The Breckenridge Ski Resort bring loads of snow that give rise to a celebration greeting new year in Breckenridge with a twenty-ton snow sculpture. An annual event that is in its 18th year now gathers together the most creative artists to transform plain clumps of snow into a work of art. Sculptors from all over the world utterly take over the town for five days to build spectacular 12-foot tall masterpieces with just their bare hands and a few permitted non-power tools such as carrot scraper and chicken wire. A panel of judges then bestow awards to the top three teams with the best snow scupltures based on theme, style and technique. Championships will take place from January 20-25, 2009 in the middle of town at the Riverwalk Center.
- Spring Massive
The eighth annual festival of Spring Massive will be held from April 1 to 19 this year. There’s always a good sense to celebrate after an amazing ski season and Breckenridge is a town that knows this better than any other. Spring Massive is commemorated each year to exult in the year’s snow fall. With live entertainment and pleasant days of spring skiing, this event always makes it easy for everyone to have a good time. You can also indulge in other planned events such as free outdoor concerts, ski competitions, the Massive Beer Festival, Comedy, and a Bite of Breckenridge, among others.
- Genuine Jazz and Arts Festival
This year marks the 25th annual Genuine Jazz and Arts Festival in Breckenridge. The free event which is normally held during a weekend in August offers an array of wine tasting, hot music, and beautiful summer nights each year in the Plaza above Maggie Pond. Various performers are always invited to entertain the crowd with a multi-genre celebration of all things jazz such as smooth jazz, fusion and mainstream.
- Breckenridge Oktoberfest
Breckenridge has been celebrating Oktoberfest for fifteen years now. Towns all across the world come together in the fall to pay tribute to the traditional German celebration of Oktoberfest and Breckenridge is at the forefront of this festival. Offering traditional German music, Bavarian food, plenty of kids’ activities, and overflowing beer, this year’s Breckenridge Octoberfest is sure to give you ultimate mountain fun from September 18-20, 2009.
- The Lighting of Breckenridge
The holiday season would not be right without the yearly Lighting of Breckenridge on Main Street. Winter brings a lot of reasons to celebrate in true Breckenridge fashion and the beginning of December is when Breckenridge officially announces that the holiday season has arrived with its Victorian Holiday celebration. During this time, competitions on the Breckenridge Ski Resort and craft workshops are all over the place for you to enjoy.
