Learning something new, supplies help?
I have a strong interest in learning how to sculpt. I’m really really good at researching and learning the “how to” part, tutorials and online advising professionals and so forth.. But not so hot on the “what with”.
To refine my question a little bit, I want to sculpt things like character models primarily, with a little dabbling in jewelry craft sculpting. I hear sculpy (sp?) is fairly well loved.. But my pocketbook hates this idea.
What’s a good, affordable, option for supplies with these aims in mind?
Sculpey and the other polymer clays (Fimo, Premo, Cernit, KATO polyclay, etc) are wonderful to work with. A little goes along way. A 2-oz block of it runs about 2 bucks or so. If you are making sculptures, you could add an armature of foil inside and just layer the clay over it. That would save on the amount of clay used.
In addition, you can mix colors of polymer clay together as you would paints. So you would really only need the primary colors and black and white to start with. Here are some sites that you may want to check out.
