Plasticine: Is there a way to harden it, and is liquid latex an option as an exterior case to harden it?
I just finished a very nice sculpture of of plasticine, and silly me didn’t look to see if it was a hardening clay before I started–the clay was a gift.
So, is it possible to harden Plasticine? I read somewhere that banana oil used to be an option, has anyone tried this?
I also have liquid latex which is meant to be a mold maker, but I’m wondering what would happen if I were to just cover my sculpture with this, would it protect it? I fully intend to paint this sculpture when I’m finished.
Lastly, if the liquid latex would work, what do I seal the plasticine with before I spread it on, or do I need to seal it?
Thanks!!!
I don’t know of a way to permanently harden plasticine – to temporally harden it chill it in the refrigerator
Depending on your sculpture you could use the liquid latex to make a mold
Brush the latex directly on the plasticine- you may need a few coats then make a mother mold of plaster to support the latex mold when you cast something like plaster in the latex mold
