Can you tell me what these are made of…little trinket boxes from India?
They appear to be stone, perhaps marble or granite, but they are much softer than that….as they are carved….many have mother of pearl inlays in the lid. There are different shapes; oval, round and heart-shaped. They have an odd odor….which may be a glaze coating that is painted on….or the odor could come from the material of the box itself….I am wondering if they are biologically safe to hold aromatherapy unguents that are to be put on the skin. I don’t want something toxic negating the healing quality of my ointments.
GENERALLY THEY ARE MADE OF HIGH QUALITY WOOD (SAY ROSE WOOD ,MAHAGONY ETC)..THEY ARE DESIGNED WITH PEARL ETC TO GIVE THEM AN ARTISTIC ALLURE…
THEY ARE 100% SAFE TO KEEP AEROMA THERAPY THINGS..BUT ONLY PROBLEM WITH THEM IS SINCE THEY ARE WOOD, THEY MIGHT RETAIN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MOISTURE GIVING THEM THE SPECIFIC SMELL…
MY SUGGESTION IS TRY KEEPING A SMALL ”DEHYDRATOR POUCH” IN THE BOX SO THAT THE BOX INSIDE REMAINS DRY AND NOT DAMN/MOIST….YOU CAN ALSO TRY ”DRYING THE BOX IN SUN FOR A DAY IF YOU CAN….
