what makes glaze go grey and not shiny in a pottery kiln?

i sometimes find that the glaze i put on plates and mugs in my pottery kiln comes out grey with no shine i have tried firing the kiln hotter but this does not help i use slip that is old and cast in molds that are also old animals and small pieces are ok

There are many many reasons why this can happen. Here are some of them.

Your slip has frozen at some time and lost its characteristics.
Your glaze has frozen at some time and lost its characteristics.
Your glaze is too thin.
Your bisque is under or over fired.
You have cleaned your bisque with too much water and it is too smooth.
Your glaze firing is too hot or your kiln settings incorrect.
Your clay body is not a good fit with the glaze you are using. I wonder what make of slip you are using?
