What happens (chemically) when the catalyst is added to a silicone rubber mixture?

We are making investment castings for my metals processing class. When we mix the silicone rubber to pour the mold we mix 10 parts rubber to 1 part catalyst. I believe it is tin catalyzed. I want to know what the catalyst does that makes the rubber set up? Thanks!
