Plastering Jobs: Requirements And Details

Plastering jobs are mostly needed for house remodelling or repairs. These are usually done in a particular area that needs a flat and smooth surface especially in walls or ceilings. The work can be considered as a minor repair or a major reconstruction. One of the benefits of doing some plastering work is the sound and heat insulation that it can give to the room.

There are two methods of plastering – wet plastering and the use of plasterboard or dry lining. They differ in the kind of material used and the amount of work that needs to be done for the completion of work.

Wet plastering is the usual method and is considered as hard to master. So, if you want the job to be perfectly done, you should look for a professional plasterer. The cost may be a bit higher but you can be assured of the quality of work. Amateurs will surely cost lower but aside from the inferior quality, you will find that they take so much time doing the work. This can bother you and can require your time and attention too. It is better to entrust the work to professionals and be pleased with the results.

One of the important steps in good plastering is the separation or division of the wall into equal areas and work on one area at a time. The area must be clean and well prepared, and should be ready for the proper bonding agent, when necessary.

Another method is dry lining. This is usually a lot easier than wet plastering. It requires less skill to complete the job. The job applies a variety of methods which include nailing, screwing or directly bonding to the wall using flat plasterboards. You can get the plasterboards from your local hardware shop. In a bathroom, it is better to use waterproof plasterboards. Although these are more expensive than the non-waterproof material, you can be assured that these will be mold and mildew resistant. Hence, they will last longer.

Whether you use wet plastering or dry lining, the finishing touch is usually done with a plaster skim. Plaster skimming, as a final coat will only be 1 to 2mm thick and is finished with a durable and very smooth wall.

Plastering job prices may vary depending on the job requirement. Professionals may charge an hourly or daily rate. Mostly, with home improvement jobs it is safer to ask for a fixed price for the whole job to avoid unexpected expenses in the end.

If you need some plastering jobs to be done in your house and you do not have an idea of where to go to avail of the service, you can check for online services and you will see several choices. You can ask for quotation and you will get a response. You just have to provide accurate information about the work that you need done. It is advisable to include information like the type of room, the area, the number of rooms, the material, the height and some other relevant information that you think can affect the pricing.
