I have a passionate desire to learn to carve Lifesize Horse Carousel – Cow How do you learn?
I'm already an artist and a biologist, so the base artistic skill and anatomical knowledge are there. But I only sculpted with clay, I've never tried wood and do not know much about how go about it. I know I should find a way to do it in pieces, like a large piece of wood would be prone to splitting as it dries unevenly. What is a good way to learn the basics so you can create?

I like to start with small wood projects and get a feel for the environment. wood working tools, such as quality kitchen knives are quite expensive but, like a good knife, are much safer to use.
