Strange house decorations?
Does anyone know what religion/organization might have rooftop carved designs; and elsewhere on storage buildings and such. The top of the house had about five wooden white things about two feet tall and pointed. There was a white star inscribed in a circle painted on the shed. In the yard there were stone pillars abut 2 ft tall in a rectangle and some others scattered. He also had wood-carved gnomes in his yard with tin caps. The yard had wooden gateways/doorways here and there that led to nowhere just randomly there. The man who previously owned it was supposedly a preacher and the house is very old. We were thinking masons maybe. Is this just a case of creativity or something else? Thanks for your answers.

It was very popular through most of the 19th century, and up until the Great Depression. The garden as described sounds like a typical “English” garden, also popular in the late 1800′s and early 1900′s.
