stone carving with house hold materials?
hi, this is a weird one.. i’m training to be a teacher and am attempting to do some stone craving with the kids.
my question is, i saw this done once with stone/brick you would buy from a umm…brick shop (see where the problem starts?). im trying to find out the name of this type of stone.
the way i believe it works is you get said stone and can shape it with normal knives then plaster it sand and rub in varnish.
sorry for garbled message i hope i got my point across.
Many thanks
soapstone is what you can carve easily. you can use normal knifes on it. You would use sandpaper of different grades on it to get it smooth. At the end you could use something like floor wax to give it a polish.
Or you can make yourself blocks of plaster using cardboard boxes of the size you want and pouring properly mixed plaster into them. After they hardened your students could rip off the cardboard and carve them.
