Where/ How can I learn to make Zuni fetishes?
Just wondering where or how I can learn to make Zuni fetishes, I can tell I’d be good at it if i knew what i was doing. I’m not willing to pay over $50 for one of the little guys so I figured I’d try my luck at making a few… Can someone point out a tutorial, person, or book I can use to learn the art? Zuni fetishes are small carved stones in the shape of animals that are believed to hold animal spirits. I am not talking about anything sexual here. Thank you.
To be a viable fetish it must be thought of in a dream. The dream will direct the carver what animal to carve.
However, you can carve a little animal if you want. It should be small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and made from a soft stone. Some are made of wood.
They hold the spirit of the animal that you dream of. If no dream then the fetish means little to the person other than a work of art. Some are very exquisite.
Losing your fetish or breaking it is very very bad luck. This is a very powerful thing so be careful with it please.
