Carving small scale Horse in stone… please help?

I live in London and I’m wanting to carve a Horse in stone… I dont know which stone.. but 6 inches tall… I sculpt in clay but have no clue where to start with stone. I don’t know where to find stone, I dont know what type of tools to use… Any advice is welcome.THANK YOU

I used to do sculpture and strangely enough also used to use horses as subjects for some of my work.
I think the best stone to use for this may be soapstone or alabaster. I used both of these and they were both fairly easy to sculpt, keep their integrity while you work on them and will present a good finish as they can both be polished, if that is the finish you would like.
Soapstone tends to be dark greenish in colour and is used by Canadian Inuits in their carving of animal subjects. Alabaster is generally white with a consistency similar to marble and was used extensively in classical sculpture.
Where to get hold of either is another question. You could try going on line to find stone masons who might supply you with some or possibly art suppliers who may deal in small quantities.
