Make jewelry How much I can do at home with minimal investment? (No heading)?
When I was in high school took a jewelry making class where we would all jewelry. We lost wax castings for rings. We and cut metal sheets in the designs and engravings them. He even took the stones and turned them into pendents. We walked and polished metal with what I think was a dremel. Anyway, I liked that and I take this as a hobby. I know the lost wax casting is not practical, but I really think and even engraving stone scenario could be. I do not know where to begin to acquire the tools and supplies. Since the teacher always foremost, and this was 10 years ago, I'm not sure they know all the supplies they need either. Be I would need a jeweler's saw, but that's all I remember. Is this really possible and if so where do I start?
This is absolutely possible, but you do need a core team. You're right, a jeweler's saw is a necessity, but to start just get a bunch of leaves # 2 – these are always in dozens and can get away with only a half court. A torch is also a necessity. Start with butane or propane and welding using low temperature – the class containing the label is silver and lead free. As for the materials you can experiment with German silver (actually an alloy of nickel silver-free) or tin. Good German silver source is ferrous metal (google it) in New York. They are also a good source for tools – but you can find the basics in a hardware store. As you get more advanced, the torch will have to upgrade anyway. An alternative to the lost wax casting is Precious Metal Clay (PMC). It is a moldable clay silver, which leads to being shot with an ordinary propane torch becomes pure silver. As for "Whole Lotta fantasy" on the network. That fun.
