How to install a bathtub: Part One
Tools and Accessories
Supplies to have on hand before you begin:
Once you have selected your new drive and your faucet, which is on the right track. Do not leave the store home improvement yet though. There are some other things you need to make sure you have on hand before beginning. It is often true that unexpected things can occur during any proposed improvements for the home, but make sure that you have everything in the following list before you can save some extra running around in the middle trying to complete your project.
Overflow and Drain Kit:
This is what controls the drain in the bathtub. There are two styles predominant. One works with a lever on the side of the tub. The lever operates a stopper inside the drain. When activated, the tub is held. The other style have a hand (or foot) operated right cap on the floor of the tub. Some close twist and some have a spring mechanism inside.
Regardless of what style you choose, make sure that the end coincides with the end of the faucet and handle set that you bought (ie, chrome with chrome, brass, bronze). You also want to ensure that the diameters of the pipes that come with the kit are the same size as the drain in the floor. Some older houses may have a strange leak size up, or may be cast iron. If you find that this is the case, there is a disaster, but it will require an adapter. Most vendors at a plumbing supply store should be familiar with this problem and the adapters needed to care for him.
Teflon tape:
This is used on male threads to connect the new shower or bathtub spout on existing pipes. You only will have to buy a small roll.
A heavy wrench:
A pipe wrench ideal. If you already have a pair of heavy pliers blocking channels at home, enough. These will be used to install your new faucet valve or the filling system.
Seal:
This will be used to seal around the edges of the tub. Look for a tube that is labeled "Tub and Tile Sealant."
Wedge Material:
If you want your tub to drain properly and not puddle on the end opposite the drain, it is necessary to ensure that bath is not out of level. You will need shims to slide under the edges of the tub to reduce and raise it to start the leveling process.
Level:
