I Have a Passionate Desire to Learn How to Carve Lifesize Carousel Horses – How Do You Learn Woodcarving?
I’m already an artist and a biologist, so the basic artistic skill and anatomical knowledge are there. But I’ve only sculpted with soft media like clay; I’ve never tried wood and don’t know much about how to go about it. What is a good way to learn the basics so I can create?
why don’t you just take a basic wood carving class in your area. check out art centers, universities, schools, check the yellow pages and use google. That will give you a good basis to work with. You should learn about different woods, how to combine them and different carving techniques, ideally hand carving and with power tools.

I would check if you could get them through the library before you buy them and only buy the ones you really like.
