What is the easiest way to stain / varnish wood for a beginner?
as a Christmas gift, I made wood carvings, I took forever, but it was always fun to do. anyway, I'd give it a quick coat to help protect. But I do not know absolutely nothing about patches and what not. I understand that you have on the surfaces of sand layers good and what is not. but can someone tell me what things base you need? I'd rather not spray, I PERF paint, if I could. a brush, what I need? and what to do?? (I see many things in bottles labeled painting and what not) and if it helps, the wood is birch, I up and give it a darker hue, and brightness good. I really do not want to paint another color. paint factory was working or something? Thank you in advance
Michele gives me more technique, but I'm a big fan of gel spots because I am a better control. Make sure the fabric is woven cloth or sponge brush application with a and use the lint-free cloth for cleaning. This way, you can create the intensity of the color you want. Whatever method you use, be sure to seal your work with a non-yellowing, UVB / UVA protection, polyurethane, which Varathane. It comes in a variety of finishes, but if you want to shine You may want to semi-gloss or gloss (they just beside the samples where they sell so you can see the difference). Waterproofing protects your work and makes it easy to clean. Generally, if you do not drop or fluff, no need to sand between coats of Varathane. But if you are simply raw imperfections lightly with sandpaper or fine steel wool grain carefully remove the dust with a damp tacky before the next layer. One track, Never Shake Varathane causing bubbles, use a paint mix well before applying.
