Where to get wood for wood carving in bay area?
I am really interesting in wood carving and I would like to buy some wood and get started. However, I cant seem to find anywhere nearby that sells wood for wood carving. I am looking for somewhere in the bay area of northern california. i would prefer not to have to buy supplies online right now, though i know that is probably a good option..
so, if anyone knows of any wood or craft stores in the area that would be great. thanks so much!
You can get small to medium chunks of basswood in various shapes in craft stores, often I find they don’t know they have it, but ask for the balsa wood display and there should be some with it. Basswood is easy to carve – not too hard and smooth grained.
If you get more serious, you need to look for “Lumber-Hardwood” in searches because “Hardwood” alone buries you under flooring sources. Here is one I found by searching near by on “Bay area” in Google Maps. If they can’t help you (wholesale, big minimum orders, wrong wood, ask them for a place that is more suited to your needs – they should know their nearby competition.)
